Better Guiding Young People to Prevent School Dropout and Promote Success.
Providing young people with the guidance they need to choose their path, secure their educational journey and prepare for professional integration.
Choosing a field of study is a decision that can have a lasting impact on a young person’s future. Yet many pupils and students begin a programme without sufficient information about professions, expected skills, career opportunities or employment prospects. Poorly planned guidance can lead to loss of motivation, late changes of direction or interruption of an educational or university pathway.
To address this challenge, the World Association for Development (AMD) implements a School and University Information and Guidance Programme designed to support young people in developing their study and career plans. This initiative aims to provide them with reliable guidance before making critical choices and enable them to anticipate the requirements of the programmes they are considering.
Through its information and guidance mechanisms, AMD provides pupils, students and their families with information on fields of study, academic pathways, skills in demand, career opportunities and developments in the labour market. This general information enables beneficiaries to compare the options available to them and better understand the links between education, qualifications and professional integration.
The programme also provides individualized support based on identifying each young person’s abilities, interests, aspirations and personal constraints. Workshops, interviews, conferences, meetings with professionals and guidance sessions help beneficiaries examine their options, reconsider a choice that has become unsuitable and define a realistic plan in light of their circumstances.
The activities carried out have helped participating young people better understand their abilities, clarify their priorities and make more coherent choices regarding their education and training. They encourage timely changes of direction, reduce decisions made by default and strengthen the continuity of educational pathways, while preparing beneficiaries for more effectively anticipated professional integration.
By bringing educational guidance closer to the realities of the education system and the world of work, AMD contributes to preventing school dropout, improving the relevance of training pathways and strengthening alignment between the skills developed and the needs of economies. This approach combines educational success, employability and human capital development.
Through this initiative, the World Association for Development reaffirms its commitment to a better-informed generation of young people, better prepared to build their future. By helping each pupil and student define a coherent pathway, AMD contributes to preparing young people who can integrate sustainably into professional life and contribute to the economic and social development of their communities.
